The current church was rebuilt in the late 17th century in the Baroque style, replacing an earlier structure. Its façade is unadorned, but the interior is richly decorated with stucco work, frescoes, and altarpieces typical of the Baroque period.
The church's prominent dome, designed by Antonio Maria Ferri, is a recognizable feature of the Florence skyline, visible from many vantage points around the city.
